What we do

Five offerings in two lanes: STEM consulting and professional learning. Every engagement fits the scope and scale of your project.

Curriculum design & alignment

Consulting

Single units to full-year maps: inquiry-driven science curriculum, backwards-designed from assessments and aligned to your state standards. You get a scope and sequence, grade-by-grade vertical alignment, and materials teachers actually teach.

Professional development workshops

Professional learning

Hands-on PD (half-day, full-day, or series) on inquiry science, phenomenon-driven lessons, assessment design, and productive science talk. Teachers leave with lessons half-built; logistics and materials fully handled.

Simple by design

Lean process, clear next steps, from first conversation to finished deliverables.

How an engagement runs

  1. Start the conversation

Book a free 30-minute call, or use the project brief builder: two minutes, no commitment.

  2. Confirm fit, get a proposal

We talk through your goals, confirm it's a fit, and you receive a written proposal: scope, deliverables, timeline, project-based pricing.

  3. Do the work, keep momentum

Workshops, design sprints, or coaching cycles with clear checkpoints and follow-through, so gains stick after we wrap.

Where & when

Virtual, year-round

Coaching sessions, design check-ins, content review, and full remote workshops, on a flexible virtual schedule.

Every month of the year

In person, school vacations & summer

On-site workshops, kickoffs, and classroom visits happen when school is out, so teachers never leave classrooms for it.

Winter, February & April breaks · Summer

Blended engagements pair virtual momentum with targeted in-person visits: the best of both formats.

03 · About

Led by Drew Giese, MPH

Four students crouched around the small robot they are building at a NASA robotics event

Drew Giese is a STEM Instructional Coach at Quabbin Regional, and a science teacher before that, with 15+ years of classrooms and coaching behind the work. He also serves as the school's Innovation Pathways Coordinator, AP Coordinator, and MyCAP leader. That experience shapes one belief: great science teaching is a craft, and schools can build it on purpose.

The classroom lens sits on a lab-trained foundation: published molecular biology research, science writing for the ABC News Medical Bureau, an MPH from UMass Amherst (2003), and the pre-clinical biomedical curriculum plus clinical rotations at UMass Medical School.

Every engagement comes with two strengths: a thought partner who asks the sharp questions and stress-tests the plan, and a planning and logistics lead who handles pacing, materials, schedules, and follow-through, so every workshop and sprint runs clean.

No canned programs, no vague praise. Just concrete, usable science: lessons teachers trust, workshops they remember, programs built to last.

06 · FAQ

Fair questions

How does pricing work?
NLC prices every engagement project-based: from the scope and scale of your project (audience, length, format, deliverables). Send a brief, talk it through on an intro call, and you get a written proposal: scope, timeline, deliverables, one fixed price. Nothing metered, nothing vague.
Virtual or in person?
Both. Virtual work (coaching, design check-ins, content review, remote workshops) runs year-round. In-person happens during school vacations and summer: winter, February, and April breaks plus summer, so teachers never leave classrooms for it.
Who do you work with?
Public school districts, charter and independent schools, nonprofits, and education companies needing STEM subject-matter expertise, from single-school projects to multi-school programs.
What does a program review include?
Standards-alignment review of your materials, classroom visits (virtual, or in-person during breaks and summer), teacher input, and a written, prioritized improvement roadmap.
How far ahead should we book?
In-person slots around school breaks and summer are limited. Briefs coming in now get first choice of the 2026–27 break calendar and summer 2027. Virtual engagements can usually start within a few weeks.
